Women of The Cre8tors - Claudia Steer
Reflect on what inspired you to pursue your career in the creative industry
I’ve always known I was creative, but for a long time, I wasn’t sure how to manifest that creativity. As a child, my imagination was vivid—I even wrote a book at seven about a girl who invented a machine that could change the weather. But it would take years before I found my true canvas.
In my mid-20s, I bought a condo, and for whatever reason, I felt compelled to explore ideas. I had the freedom to experiment, to try and fail in private. That’s when I became deeply drawn to the science and art of transforming space. The seed was planted then, but it took another five years of designing as a hobby before I finally honored the call.
I believe that when something won’t leave you alone—when it lingers in your spirit—you have no choice but to honor it. That’s what led me here
Describe how you hope your work impacts or inspires other women
If there’s one theme that runs through my work, it’s risk. I create from a deeply personal, artistic lens—one that doesn’t always align with traditional design norms. Over time, I’ve developed an unwavering respect for my intuition, even when it isn’t a tangible or easily explainable guide.
Design is full of decisions that don’t always make sense on paper—an unexpected textile, an unconventional mix of patterns—but my inner compass helps me navigate which risks are worth taking. And as a woman with a high tolerance for risk, I believe more women should embrace that mindset.
We’ve been conditioned to seek approval, but true creative fulfillment comes from honoring our own curiosities, even when they push against expectations. When people see my work, they often describe it as bold, but what they don’t see are the layers of risk—the moments of uncertainty, the leaps of faith it takes to push beyond the mundane.
That’s what I want for other women creatives: the freedom to trust their instincts, to take risks, and to create unapologetically. Because the most fulfilling work—the kind that transforms and resonates—comes from listening to what’s placed on your heart and following it, no matter the cost.
